Phone Wallet Guide: Will Your Phone Fit?

What should you check first when choosing a phone wallet?

Quick answer: Measure your phone in the case you use every day. Compare its height, width and thickness with the phone compartment's usable interior and opening. Then check whether the wallet closes comfortably with your cards and banknotes inside. Screen size and the wallet's exterior dimensions alone cannot confirm phone compatibility.

When comparing wallets with a phone compartment, ask two separate questions: Does the phone fit inside, and is the wallet comfortable to use with your everyday contents? A positive answer to the first question does not automatically answer the second.

Why is screen size not enough?

A phone's screen size in inches describes the screen diagonal. It does not specify the device's overall height, width, thickness or camera protrusion. Phones with similar screen sizes can have different exterior dimensions.

A case changes those dimensions too. Reinforced corners, a raised camera surround, a rear grip or a card-carrying case can affect the fit. A check performed without a case does not establish compatibility with the case fitted.

How to measure your phone with its case

  1. Put the phone in the case you intend to use.
  2. Measure its total height and width at the widest point.
  3. Measure the thickest point, including camera protection and any rear accessories.
  4. Record the phone model, case and dimensions together.

Do not compress the case while measuring. Use the same unit for every measurement. For example, an area listed as 16.5 × 8 cm is 165 × 80 mm; converting the units does not establish that a phone will fit.

Exterior size, compartment size and opening are different measurements

Information What it helps you assess What it does not establish alone
Closed exterior dimensions The wallet's overall size for carrying by hand, in a pocket or in a bag. The usable dimensions of the phone compartment.
Phone area's height and width An initial comparison with your phone. Compartment depth or ease of insertion.
Compartment depth and opening Whether the cased phone can be inserted and removed. Closure once cards and cash are added.
A check with everyday contents Fit, closure and access together. The same result with another phone or case.

A wallet that is 2 cm thick does not necessarily have a phone compartment that is 2 cm deep. Leather layers, other compartments and the closure also contribute to its overall thickness.

Even if your phone is smaller than the stated area, the opening, corners and thickness still need checking. There is no single clearance allowance that applies to every model.

How to interpret the dimensions of three Deriza models

The comparison below uses product specifications, not compatibility tests with particular phones. All three models are unisex options made from genuine cowhide leather.

Model Dimensions and phone area Layout and closure
Noyan Black Closed: 19 × 9 × 2 cm. Phone area: 16.5 × 8 cm. Compartment depth is not specified. 12 card spaces including the window compartment, 1 large zipped compartment and 2 banknote or document compartments. Magnetic main closure.
Barlas Floter Black Closed: 19 × 9 × 2 cm. Phone area: 16.5 × 8 cm. Compartment depth is not specified. 12 card compartments, 1 large zipped pocket and 2 banknote or document compartments. Magnetic main closure and a rear hand grip.
Genuine Leather Wallet with Phone Compartment — Tan Closed: 18 cm high, 9 cm wide and 2 cm thick. Usable phone compartment dimensions are not specified. 8 card compartments and 1 banknote compartment. Zipped main closure.

The Noyan Black phone wallet has 12 card spaces in total: 5 in the inner card section, 6 in the wallet body and 1 window compartment. The window compartment is included in the total. The inner card section's 16.5 × 7 cm dimensions should not be confused with the phone area.

None of these three models has a dedicated coin compartment. The large zipped sections in Noyan and Barlas are not described as coin compartments. The number of card spaces also does not represent a tested total capacity with a phone and cash inside.

How to check closure with a phone, cards and cash

Assess fit using the contents you carry every day. A phone may fit in an empty wallet, while cards and folded banknotes change closure and access.

  1. Place your everyday cards and banknotes in their intended compartments without exceeding the manufacturer's stated capacity.
  2. Put the cased phone only in its designated compartment.
  3. Check that the flap or zip closes without compressing the contents.
  4. Check whether you can remove and replace the phone comfortably without emptying other compartments.

If a magnetic closure requires you to press the wallet together to align the flap, reassess the contents and fit. Do not force a zip closed. In Noyan and Barlas, the internal zipped section and magnetic main closure serve separate functions.

A check applies only to the wallet, phone, case and contents used. Do not assume the same result with a different case or more cards.

Carrying by hand, with a wrist strap or in a bag

The rear hand grip on Barlas Floter Black helps you hold the wallet. It is not the same feature as a wrist strap. If you want to wear the wallet around your wrist, check that the selected model has a strap designed for that purpose.

For bag use, consider whether you can remove the wallet when your other belongings are in place. A larger phone wallet may not suit a small-pocket carrying habit.

When might a phone wallet be unsuitable?

  • A thick case or rear accessory makes the usable compartment too small.
  • Your everyday cards and cash make the closure difficult to fasten.
  • There is no suitable separate space for coins, keys or an earbud case.
  • You need to empty other contents every time you remove your phone.
  • The filled wallet is too bulky for the way you carry it.

In these situations, carrying your phone separately or choosing a bag with more room may be more practical. Do not force the phone into place in the expectation that the leather will stretch.

What information should you request before ordering?

Provide your phone model and its height, width and maximum thickness with the case fitted. Ask about the selected wallet's phone compartment depth, opening and closure with your everyday cards and cash. Where possible, request a real photo or video showing the same phone and case inside the wallet.

Final check: Insertion, comfortable removal and easy closure with everyday contents should be assessed together. Choose according to your phone's dimensions, the compartment layout and how you intend to carry the wallet.
